The college football season cranks up into overdrive in Week 4 as the SEC opens play, joining the ACC and Big 12 as Power Five conferences rolling along in the 2020 season. No. 8 Auburn will host No. 23 Kentucky in one of three ranked-on-ranked games of the weekend, while defending national champion LSU, which enters ranked No. 6 in the AP Top 25 poll, will kick off its title defense at home against Mississippi State on the SEC on CBS.

Elsewhere, No. 24 Louisville will look to get back on track against No. 21 Pittsburgh, No. 22 Army will visit No. 14 Cincinnati and Florida State will square off against No. 12 Miami (FL) in the first big rivalry game of the season.

Let’s take a look at what the oddsmakers think will get money on both sides of the equation, with odds provided via William Hill Sportsbook.

College football bowl projections: Big Ten return shakes up College Football Playoff, New Year’s Six games

It has been almost a month since my preseason bowl projections, and since then, a lot has changed. The biggest change is that we welcome the Big Ten back to the 2020 college football season.  The league canceled its football season back on Aug. 11 but then reversed course on Sept. 17 and announced it will play an eight-game schedule plus a ninth game for each team on its championship Saturday, which will be Dec. 19.

From a bowl perspective, adding the Big Ten back in gives us 90 teams from which to choose.  It also means another Power Five conference in play for the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State, the preseason No. 2 team in the AP Top 25, is now projected to have that same seed in the College Football Playoff.  Alabama drops down to No. 3 and Oklahoma falls to No. 4.  Georgia is still in the

SEC West college football preview — Is Alabama ready to reclaim its throne?

If you were squinting just right, you could see the ground moving beneath Nick Saban’s feet last season. LSU, until recently one of the last proud purveyors of Big Burly Manball, had modernized its offense and produced numbers no one had seen before, throwing for 6,000 yards, beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa and zooming to 15-0. Auburn, meanwhile, was playing the conference’s most exciting and interesting defense; Bama’s Iron Bowl rival was the only team to hold LSU under 36 points and turned said Iron Bowl with a pair of pick-sixes.

Alabama lost to both of its primary rivals and finished eighth in the AP poll, its lowest placement since 2010 (the previous time one of these two rivals won the national title). Was this the turning point then? Is the Saban dynasty finally crumbling to the ground?

Yeah, right. SEC West play is scheduled to begin on Sept. 26, and

AP Top 25 college football poll reaction

The AP Top 25 college football poll is out, and this should be the last week it does not include Big Ten teams. So before next week’s shake-up — which will also include the first weekend of SEC play — here’s what’s on tap for each ranked team, starting with No. 1 Clemson.

No. 1 Clemson (2-0)

There wasn’t much to learn from the Tigers’ easy win over The Citadel, a glorified scrimmage that featured 49 first-half points for Clemson before Trevor Lawrence was pulled from the game. That none of the Tigers’ stars got dinged up was a big plus, and if D-linemen Tyler Davis (knee) and Justin Foster (COVID-19 protocols) can get back on the field in two weeks against Virginia, everything should be clicking for Dabo Swinney’s crew. — David M. Hale

No. 2 Alabama (0-0)

Things are going smoothly in Tuscaloosa as the Crimson Tide have

Florida State vs. Georgia Tech odds, spread: 2020 college football picks, predictions from expert on 14-3 run

Getting off to a strong start on their own field has become the norm for the Florida State Seminoles. The squad has posted a 30-9 all-time record when opening a season at home, including an 18-3 mark since 1975. The Seminoles will look to improve upon those numbers when they host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday in the 2020 season opener for both schools. Kickoff from Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.

Florida State has a new coach with a track record of fast starts in Mike Norvell, who won each of his four season openers with Memphis as the team outscored its opponents 153-70 in those contests. The Seminoles are 12.5-point favorites in the latest Florida State vs. Georgia Tech odds from William Hill, while the over-under for total points scored is 52. Before making any Georgia

Highlights From The Return Of College Football

It was an eventful week as college football returned after a summer of uncertainty. Here’s a look at some of the top storylines from around the country.

The Miami Hurricanes got the 31-14 win over UAB on Thursday. In his highly anticipated debut, Houston transfer quarterback D’eriq King finished 16-24 for 144 yards with one touchdown for the Canes. It was an emotional night for King, who played in his first game since losing his father in February.

-Saturday featured a full slate of games, but the Florida Gators made headlines despite not being on the schedule yet. A fire broke out at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Demetrius Harvey it was a piece of equipment caught on fire.

“Multiple Alachua County Fire Rescue officials told SI’s Zach Goodall, who is currently at the scene, that the fire began due to a tractor, considered field equipment, that

Notre Dame vs. Duke odds, line, spread: 2020 college football picks, predictions from proven model on 4-0 run

The No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish will look to continue their home dominance when they open their season on Saturday against the Duke Blue Devils. Notre Dame has won 18 consecutive games at Notre Dame Stadium, the third-longest streak since the stadium opened in 1930. Clemson and Ohio State are the only other Power Five schools that boast streaks of that magnitude. Notre Dame was 11-2 overall in 2019, while Duke finished 5-7.

The game is slated to start at 2:30 p.m. ET at South Bend, Ind. The Fighting Irish, who are playing this season as a member of the ACC, are favored by 20 points in the latest Duke vs. Notre Dame odds from William Hill. Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence gives college football season validation it needs

The nitpicking started when Trevor Lawrence took a sack on third down for a 16-yard loss and a three-and-out on Clemson’s first possession Saturday night against Wake Forest.

The junior quarterback left little to overscrutinize after that. He backed his billing as the best player in college football as the No. 1 Tigers (1-0, 1-0 ACC) flexed in a 37-13 victory, a result that wasn’t exactly shocking considering they were 33.5-point favorites coming in.

Lawrence (22-of-28 passing, 351 yards, three total touchdowns) also backed up what he did off the field in the offseason, when he established himself as a leading voice in the push to play amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

BENDER: Can Notre Dame be a worthy challenger to Clemson in ACC?

It was Lawrence, who threw five interceptions in his first three starts last season, who drove home the point about his on-field standing by showing no early-season

College football scores, NCAA top 25 rankings, Week 2: Texas’ Ehlinger, Oklahoma’s Rattler dominant in wins

The Big 12 began the day with an awful showing as Iowa State and Kansas State each lost at home to Sun Belt foes. But the league’s powers brought plenty of force later in the day as Oklahoma and Texas both cruised to easy wins. The Sooners jumped out to a 31-0 first quarter lead over Missouri State and glided to a 48-0 victory, while Texas scored on its first offensive play en route to a 59-3 win over UTEP.

Both programs have league title and College Football Playoff aspirations behind quarterbacks who are expected to have big seasons, and both delivered impressive opening performances. Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler completed 14-of-17 passes for 291 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions while playing only two quarters in his first start for the Sooners. Not to be outdone, Texas’ Sam Ehlinger threw for 429 yards and five touchdowns … in one half.

Oklahoma names Spencer Rattler starting quarterback entering 2020 college football season

The Spencer Rattler era has officially arrived at Oklahoma after Sooners coach Lincoln Riley announced Tuesday that the redshirt freshman will be the team’s starting quarterback to begin the 2020 season. Rattler entered preseason camp as the favorite to replace Jalen Hurts at the position but faced a worthy challenger in redshirt sophomore Tanner Mordecai, who dealt with a hamstring injury during preseason camp.

“It’s been a little bit different competition,” Riley said. “Spencer, I think, has played very well and is certainly very deserving of it. Disappointed for Tanner Mordecai. He had to end up missing 70 to 75% of fall camp, which obviously severely limited his reps or true opportunities to really go play his best ball and have a shot at it. That’s football.”

Rattler is a former five-star prospect who ranked as the top quarterback and No. 11 overall player in the class of 2019,
